RE: Monthly rates in GA, FL, MS, AL, LA

Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL is less than $400/month, full hookups (W/E/S), no wi-fi at your site but available at the community building.

RE: DVR (not TiVO or DirecTV)

Phillips/Magnavox sells a DVR with a 80gb hard drive. Sells at Sam's Club and some Wal-Marts for around $225. I love mine. Record to the hard drive if you just want to watch a program once, or to a DVD if you want to save it.

RE: Dish Network prepaid

I think I've discovered the problem. The 311 receiver is not the correct one--need a 301 receiver. So, back to Radio Shack.

RE: Dish Network prepaid

Based on the comments here, I purchased a 311 receiver from Radio Shack to use for DishNow. Bought a Green Dot MoneyPak for $20. When I called the DishNow 888 number to subscribe and gave my receiver number to activate it, the recorded voice said it was "unable to activate this model receiver for DishNow at this time." I tried to connect with a real person through the DishNow main menu, but was unable to. Tried the main Dish tech support and that person was unable to help--didn't really know much about DishNow. Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Cooling down my laptop

The problem with the Chill Hub is that it requires AC power to work, which kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. I use the Targus Chill Pad, which runs off USB.

Laptop won't shut down

Just in the past few days, my Toshiba laptop running XP, on occasion refuses to shut down. Using either the normal Start>Turn Off Computer>Turn Off method or holding the power button, it will shut down and then immediately re-start, as if I had hit the Restart button (which I didn't). It doesn't do it every time, but frequently. Any ideas?

I used an external hard drive, transferred from old pc to hd using Easy Transfer, then to new pc. Everything ran smoothly, no problems.

RE: texas t campground

We've stayed several times on our way south. Good for an overnight, but I wouldn't stay longer. As mentioned, close to highway and truck noise.

RE: Thermistor up or down???

Optimum temp inside a refrigerator is 42 degrees.
Hate to disagree, but everything I read says 37-38 degrees.

RE: Titanium )wners - What's your MPG

I get about 9 mpg (GMC 8.1L) pulling my 28E33SB, up from 8 mpg pulling a Travel Supreme Express 31', both about 10,500lbs.

RE: Phoenix area: Usery or Mt. McDowell?

We've stayed at both--our preference is Usury, but McDowell is nice as well. A little more vegetation at Usury.

RE: Alabama State Park Reservations

I am trying to get my reservation for Gulf Shores for the winter months.
Keep trying, but I think you are probably too late. When we were there last winter, they cut off reservations for Winter 2009 in February. I wouldn't worry though. If you get there before the end of January, you will probably be able to get in immediately. Worst case, you put your name on the waiting list, stay at a private park and get into the state park in a couple of days. Once you're in you can stay as long as you want (well, at least until the end of April).

RE: Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, AL

When we go to the beach we ride our bikes--only about 5 minutes. Depending on where in the campground you are, it could be a 10 minute to half hour walk. There is loads of parking at the beach pavillion.
Based on progress when we left in April, I doubt the pier is finished yet.
There really isn't much difference in the size of the sites from one loop to another. Now that all sites have been rebuilt with full hookups and blacktop pads, they are all pretty big.
It's a great park. We've been wintering there for 12 years.

Not only won"t I tell your wife, I won't even tell my wife! Just the thought that someone else found a snake in their trailer would have her worried every time she went to bed in ours.

RE: Camping in Michigan west side

Better check for openings though because most campgrounds, State parks anyway, on the west side have long been booked up. People on the east side are traveling to the west side more then up north to the UP. Books up on the west side anyway.
This is definitely true on week-ends. However, I've been seeing many of the state parks with vacancies during the week, especially if you arrive early afternoon.
